We did it. On May 30, 2010 a group of Emerson’s supporters ran the Stillwater Marathon and raised over $100,000 to fund a patient room in Emerson’s name. A journal entry describing the day was written on June 5 and can be found on Emerson's CaringBridge site at www.caringbridge.org/visit/emersonriter/journal.
Emerson was born on February 18, 2007. She has an exuberant personality that dwarfs her age and seems to pull those around her closer. She’s a risk taker with a fierce spirit. She has two devoted parents, a little brother that is in for years of love and torture at her whim, and a chocolate lab that protects her like a sister. Those who know her understand her humor, her sass, her intelligence and her stubbornness. She is in the process of beating cancer.
Emerson was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) on October 29, 2009. She will be five years old when her final chemotherapy treatment is administered and will have spent countless hours with her parents at Children's of Minnesota. We support Fill a Room with Care as a way to express gratitude for the amazing care Emerson has and will receive at this very special place; to help other families who face the challenges we see in front of us; and because Emerson’s strength inspires us to simply do more.
