Lawson's Legacy Golf Tournament

The seventh annual Lawson’s Legacy – A Heart to Remember golf event will be held at Rush Lake Golf Club in Maple Grove on Monday, May 24, 2010. The golf tournament is held in memory of Lawson Rios, who died on April 30, 2003, of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a rare form of congenital heart disease.

Proceeds from this event benefit the Lawson’s Legacy Fund and will be used to support Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) research. CHD is a general term used to describe over 35 different heart defects that are present at birth.

Date: Monday May 24, 2010
Place: Rush Creek Golf Club, Maple Grove (map)
Time: 1:00 PM shotgun start
Cost: $150 for golf and dinner, $50 dinner only

A note from Mike and Kara Rios
Lawson's parents and event co-chairs

Lawson was born on January 31, 2003 with a complex form of CHD and passed away on April 30, 2003 after enduring three open-heart surgeries that attempted to correct his heart defects. In the months following Lawson’s death we were stunned to find out that very little is known about the causes of CHD, despite the fact that heart defects are among the most common birth defects and are the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths in infants under one year of age (March of Dimes, 2008). Proceeds from the event will benefit cardiac research at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. We know that there are many worthy causes that compete for your support and we hope you will consider continuing to support Lawson’s Legacy in any way you can during these difficult economic times.
